Dear Reader,

Welcome to my first ever attempt at a blog! I’m not sure what got you here-a Google algorithm or maybe simple curiosity, but now you are here “hello”.

So what’s it all about? Well, it’s a garden and kitchen blog about; growing your own in a small garden and on a budget, trying to live cheaply but better, going more organic, cooking, eating less meat, and generally helping out at saving the planet. But I suspect there will also be diversions into the history of popular gardening and cookery, home crafts, cottage renovation, the countryside, the seaside, the seasons, and efforts at fitness and wellbeing.

I’m keeping the remit fairly wide because, firstly, I’ve read other blogs where people write to ‘share experience’, and help others with information and guidance gathered from their own practical experience. This is all very commendable, but I don’t (yet) have much experience to share(!), so I’m more setting out to learn from those who can help, whoever they maybe.

And secondly, to be honest I’m writing this blog for my own benefit as much as anyone else’s. I don’t kid myself it’s any different. I want to learn about gardening and cooking, I also want to learn how to write a blog(!), what others are interested in and not so interested in, and I want to document my efforts for my own benefit. The triumphs, the disasters, and the less inspiring in-between so-so.

So that’s what it’s all about. So welcome along.

As its winter at the moment, I don’t expect too many posts initially, but as life and the weather warm up, hopefully so the volume of work in my modest garden will increase….

Happy New Year to you,

James
